EOS SAT is a satellite constellation developed by EOS Data Analytics (EOSDA), a global provider of satellite imagery analytics.
The constellation is focused on supporting sustainable agriculture practices and environmental monitoring of forested areas by providing high-quality data for analysis. It will consist of 7 small optical satellites (178 kg) that will orbit the Earth at a low sun-synchronous orbit and generate panchromatic and multispectral imagery.
By 2025, when all satellites are deployed, EOS SAT will cover 100% of countries with the largest areas of forestland and farmland, which totals 98.5% of such lands globally. The constellation will be able to monitor around 8.6-9.4 million square kilometers daily, with the technical capability to increase the coverage to 12 million square kilometers.
End-users will be able to request analytics results within 16-24 hours of data generation. For prioritized tasks, the data cycle can be shortened to three hours.
The seven-satellite constellation will generate imagery of the same territories every 5-6 days, and daily revisits of specific areas will be available on customer demand through field-level tasking.
The imagery within country-level tasks may take up to 4 days to generate, depending on the size and location of the area. The EOSDA team can also solve anomaly detection tasks within a day.
The EOS SAT satellites will be equipped with cameras that capture imagery using agricultural-related bands, including RGB, 2 NIR channels, 3 RedEdge channels, Water Vapor, Aerosol, Pan, and SWIR. EOS SAT-1 will have 11 spectral bands, while EOS SAT-2 and the following satellites will have 13 bands (two extra SWIR).
The first satellite, EOS SAT-1, is scheduled to be launched in early 2023, with the remaining six satellites expected to reach orbit in 2023-2024
